IMM services for the City of Luxembourg/European Cultural Capital in 1995

Cel

The objectives of the CAP-95 project are to specify and to plan the implementation of end user oriented IMM points of information and communication services covering a variety of urban activities (culture, tourism, business, transport, health, leisure) in the City of Luxembourg, European cultural capital in 1995. Special emphasis will be put on multilingual (5 languages) service access and user interaction.

The technological approach will follow a flexible client/server architecture for MM objects, implementing existing and emerging capturing formats and compression standards, an MM database technology compatible with multivendor presentation platforms.

The following 2 demonstrators will be evaluated;

a touch sensitive operated information kiosk with video, image, text, speech, sound capabilities (KIOSK);
a multimedia database prototype for repository, client access and MM objects maintenance services (MMDBS).

Direct commercial exploitation of the products and services by the project partner, and other SMEs active in the multimedia marketplace will be launched and the great multiplier potential in similar application contexts will be exploited. 8 points of information kiosks will be installed at strategic sites and locations to service a user population of more than 1 million people per year.
