Network of mobility centres of the Universities of Saarland, Luxembourg, Lorraine and Liège

Periodic Report Summary - UNI-SALLL (Network of mobility centres of the Universities of Saarland, Luxembourg, Lorraine and Liege)

During the first year of the project, the partners elaborated a presentation of their respective mobility centres. These presentations were summarized in a power point presentation of the UNISALLL project which was used several times to explain the aims of the project to various interlocutors, including the Euraxess network. The partners also agreed on the form and content of the presentation leaflet of the UNISALLL project, which can be used as a business card of the network, and was distributed throughout the Euraxess network.

The partners agreed on the structure and content of the Euraxess-GR website, which was put on the web at the beginning of the year 2009 and is since being updated with new documents. The partners received explanations about the administrative and financial procedures in the greater region. The partners agreed on the scheme of the training visits for the new staff of the Euraxess centre in Luxembourg and discussed the issues to be submitted to the benchmarking process.

Three visits took place during this first year as a first step of the benchmarking process: the partners visited the Universite de Liege Student Mobility Centre newly renovated, the Euraxess Service Centre of the University of Nancy, and they inaugurated the Euraxess Service Centre of the Universite de Liege (in presence of the project officer).

The new staff of the Euraxess Services Centre of Luxembourg visited the Euraxess centres of Nancy and Liege, as part of her training. Issues achieved during the training sessions:
- analysis of the welcome process for students and researchers

- presentation of the tools used during the welcome process (welcome pack materials, practical sheets, administrative formalities (for residence permits), presentation of the Alfred tool (French database used as management tool, for the delivery of the 'guest researcher card' and as statistic source).
- discussion with all the staff involved in the welcome process.

The partners prepared the workshop for the Euraxess Network Conference in Potsdam. All partners contributed to the animation of this workshop devoted to the analyse and comparison of the structure of several welcome guides for researchers used in the Euraxess network. The partners were informed about the Interreg project UGR (University of the Greater Region) through a presentation by its coordinator. They discussed the possible collaboration between the two projects for the setting up of a PHD day in the course of the second year of the project. At that stage, the partners mainly focussed on the concept and the organisation of the PHD day.

Description of the main results achieved so far:
1. The leaflet presenting the project and its partners was available for distribution at the Euraxess Network conference. The remaining copies (1 600 out of 2 000) are dispatched by the service centres of the four partners to the mobile researchers.
2. The website Euraxess GR is available since early 2009. It is being enriched progressively as long as the project develops.
3. Two training visits took place so far, in Nancy and in Liege: the outcomes of these visits will contribute to the benchmarking process.
4. The workshop at the Euraxess conference was the opportunity to present the project to the participants, who are staff members of Euraxess Service Centres from all over Europe. It allowed the participants to draw useful conclusions from their examination of about 15 different issues of researcher's guides.

Final expected result: As an overall impact, UNISALLL will increase the incoming and outgoing streamline of researchers in the greater region by up to 50 %.

Socio-economic impact and societal implications:
The approach of UNISALLL can contribute to improve the quality of the services of the Euraxess network.
