Application of new technologies in the field of CAD/CAM and rapid prototyping within the toys sector

CORDIS oferuje możliwość skorzystania z odnośników do publicznie dostępnych publikacji i rezultatów projektów realizowanych w ramach programów ramowych HORYZONT.

The result of the TOYS-CIM project is the incorporation of technology used in more advanced sectors into the toy sector in order to improve the design process of new toys. More precisely, the use of new systems of laser digitalisation for obtaining three-dimensional models and the necessary software for adapting the results to suit the needs of all the interested SMEs, have both been incorporated. As a result of the experiences carried out in eleven pilot companies of the sector, a Manual-Guide has been compiled, allowing any interested SME in the toy sector the opportunity to incorporate the results of the project in their processes. In addition, SMEs from other sectors whose processes require the use of the technologies may also use the Manual-Guide to incorporate the results in the creation and development of new prototypes. The adaptation and adjustment of technologies in order to improve the processes of reverse engineering used traditionally by the toy sector, have been carried out: - by obtaining three-dimensional data through laser digitalisation of prototypes,. - and through the subsequent treatment of the obtained cloud of points in order to create curves and surfaces or to obtain the mechanization programs of the digitalized model directly from the cloud of points. The incorporation of these technologies is not only being carried out in the toy sector, but also in sectors such as moulds, electrical goods, cars, and all sectors which work with physical prototypes and which need to develop a mould or die from a physical prototype. The use of these reverse engineering techniques will lead to a reduction in development times and in associated costs for any SME which incorporates the results of the project.
