Electronic commerce for a high level organisation of European sales

Cel

According to the market requirements to stop relocation abroad and to face new competitors, the main weapon will be based on the capability of the short-term reaction provided to European textile and clothing companies. Proximity to their market gives these companies a basic advantage compared with East Asian firms for which distance and delivery time are incompressible. Thus, for the European textile and clothing industry, the solution lies in the Quick Response Service thanks to a reorganisation based on demand forecasting and automation of information exchanges.
E.C.H.O.E.S ultimate objective consists in the reduction of the time needed to make available any model in any outlet thanks to a better reactivity given to textile and clothing sector. It means that interaction between the partners of the Textile and Clothing chain must be improved, changing the current situation based on traditional means (Mail, Phone, Fax) into an interconnected system in which each link of the chain becomes sometimes a Customer, sometimes a Supplier.
E.C.H.O.E.S project aims at developing a Decision Aid Facility composed of three technical goals.
A Customer/Supplier Server, based on a standard common language and on the use of INTER/EXTRANET communication, will be developed to automatise the commercial dialogue.
The setting up of commercial relationships (open Marketplace) between firms not yet involved in business dealings will be implemented on a Central Server. The development of this Central Server will mainly require the realisation of an intelligent search engine customised for the textile and clothing sector.
A forecasting model, based on orders from sales outlets as well as real consumer purchases, will be implemented on the Central Server.
Such Decision Aid Facility will not be efficent without a new operational model based on partnership instead of on a balance of power. Therefore, E.C.H.O.E.S project will establish a new flexible organisation of the business processes taking into account the productive efficiency objective and the requirements for a smooth transition to new business practices in the context of electronic commerce. E.C.H.O.E.S project aims to reduce lead times and improve responsiveness for the European textile and Clothing industry.
Covering each profession related to the textile/clothing branch, the consortium combines the expertise of 4 Technical and Research centres, 21 Industialists (11 for textile and 10 for clothing) forming a "User Group", as well as 2 companies specialised in organisation and software development.
The results of the E.C.H.O.E.S project will consist in Methodologies, Organisation tools, Standard procedures and Software Components available to companies belonging to the textile branch. They will be provided by professional organisations, consultancy firms and software houses which decided to propose a triple commercial offer :
A "methodology and Training" offer consisting of E.C.H.O.E.S-Organisation module and E.C.H.O.E.S-Training module.
A "Customer/Supplier Exchange" offer consisting of E.C.H.O.E.S-Commerce and E.C.H.O.E.S-Client softwares.
A "Central Server" offer consisting of E.C.H.O.E.S-iTexPlorer (intelligent search engine) and E.C.H.O.E.S-Trend softwares.
Exploitation will consist in carrying out marketing survey and commercial actions such as brochures as well as prospecting plan. Concerning the Central Server Offer, a subscription system will be set up. Development of the industrial exploitation will include a permanent evaluation of the results and the evolution of the commercial offer.
Dissemination actions will consist in promoting the E.C.H.O.E.S results, through exhibitions, articles, presentations and production of case studies. A User Group and an Interest Group of companies of the textile sector are involved in the project for feedback and improvement of project results.
