Computational Symmetry for Geometric Data Analysis and Design

Final Report Summary - COSYM (Computational Symmetry for Geometric Data Analysis and Design)

The COSYM project investigated new concepts of computational symmetry that allow a principled study of spatial organization in geometric data. The research efforts resulted in new mathematical models and algorithms for symmetry-aware 3D geometry reconstruction that allow extracting high-level structural information in 3D measured data. Such information can significantly improve reconstruction quality and facilitates new editing and design methodologies. With a focus on applications in urban modeling and architectural design, the project has shown how symmetry facilitates more effective computational solutions to geometry analysis and synthesis.
