"Light on the Dark: Probing Dark Matter, Dark Energy and Dark Ages"

Final Report Summary - LIDA (Light on the Dark: Probing Dark Matter, Dark Energy and Dark Ages)

The goal of this ERC project was to shade new “Light on the DArk” (LIDA) using new analysis techniques and new observations coming from two complementary surveys:
* The Hubble Frontier Fields (HFF), which started in 2013 and during 3 years observed 6 of the most massive lensing clusters using both the visible and infrared camera of the Hubble SpaceTelescope. HFF has been the cornerstone observations of the Hubble Space Telescope, which led to many press releases regarding the mass distribution of clusters and the distant galaxies as possible sources of reionizations (many of them involving LIDA scientists).
* The extended Baryonic Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey [eBOSS] (Dawson, Kneib et al 2016) for which J.-P. Kneib is the Principal investigator, which led to the first measurement of the BAO peak at z~1.5 using the distribution of quasars - this result was widely publicised in the press.

Finally, as part of LIDA, we have developed new technologies and algorithms in synergy with the EPFL Laboratory of robotic systems for handling the positioning of fibers of the future massive spectroscopic surveys. Our solutions will be used in the context of the DESI, MOONS and SDSS-V projects.
