DESARTE is a computer-based prototypal environment aiming to support the work of architects and landscape architects. Particular to the approach of DESARTE is that it is based on the ethnography of and participatory design in (landscape) architectural work as two complementary methods.
DESARTE has two main components. The Wunderkammer is an inhabitable multi-media archive, collection support, and view generator. It supports the inspiration, as well as the concept-formation and development aspects of a design project. The Manufaktur is a collaborative 3D workspace which helps architects and landscape architects to evoke, create and maintain the context of a particular design task, a project, or a group of ongoing work; and to act within that context. The Manufaktur, which supports the ongoing work of architects and landscape architects, consists of components developed within the project.
DESARTE is expected to benefit from the boom currently observed on the market of designed products, objects and services, especially in Europe, which is a traditional seat of design.
The result of DESARTE is a robust, case-based prototypal work environment for architectural practice, together with a description of the specifications of an industrial product.
