Final Report Summary - FENDOI (Flexible Edge Nodes for Dynamic Optical Interconnection of Access and Core Networks)
The target research within the FENDOI project was:
1) Definition of an architecture for a converged access/metro/core network supporting heterogeneous access technologies and new optical transport networks in the core.
2) Definition, requirements and specifications for a converged edge node
Most of the goals have been achieved in the project, but e.g. introducing the signal spectral slicing technology that enables transmission of high bandwith signals (large data amounts) from the service provider to the end user.
The methods have been verified and characterised in different configurations - most of it in close collaboration with leading industrial partners.
