Final Report Summary - RETEXRESALB (Reinforcement of human and material capacities of the Textile Technology Research Centre in Albania)
The involvement of the RETEXRESALB project has led to the reinforcement of human and material capacities at the Textile Technology Research Centre in Tirana (Albania). Lecturers from the textile departments of Ghent University in Belgium and TEI Piraeus in Greece led courses for Albanian teaching staff and researchers, while students and staff from Albania also spent three months in either Belgium or Greece, taking part in research activities and receiving specialised training.
From the very beginning, industry was involved in this project, and through seminars and workshops knowledge was transferred on new production technologies and the opportunities for eventually making the move from more traditional to technical textiles. Funding also covered the purchase of equipment for the quality control of textiles. The project has triggered other funding possibilities: two Albanians were successful in obtaining an Erasmus Mundus Basileus grant, allowing them to continue three year postdoctoral studies at the department of textiles at Ghent University in Belgium.
Another important outcome has been the further development of material and human capacity of the Textile Department laboratories in Albania by training staff and purchasing new upgraded equipment. This will improve the laboratories abilities in quality control of textile materials and products for the Albanian textile industry.
This project helped strengthening the relationships between the Textile Department of UPT and the home textile and clothing industry through the planned technology transfer activities (workshops, courses, conference) and through the provision of industrial services and studies in service of this industry. This project will help the Albanian textile and clothing industry to become a competitive industry in the regional and international market, both in the short and long term.
As the only accredited laboratory in the country performing analysis for third parties - this project has aided the quality improvement of the existing textile export products and helped the industry to define new export products, thus increasing the export level of the textile industry and as a result of this - employment possibilities.
The integration of an Albanian university in the AUTEX network of European textile universities will guarantee the free movement and exchange of information, research results, teachers and students between similar European universities. This will result in a widespread co-operation with textile universities in the European Union with the possibility to carry out joint research projects in the field of textile technology, innovative materials, environmental impact, etc. and other activities in the future.
