European Lead-Free Soldering Network

Final Report Summary - ELFNET (European lead-free soldering network)

ELFNET constituted a Coordination Action whose aim was to provide a platform in order to coordinate, integrate and optimise the critical mass of European research in lead-free soldering, hence the European Union (EU) electronic producers have been called to optimise solutions and meet the EU deadline of introducing lead-free soldering in consumer products by July 2006.

The ELFNET network brought together Technical expert groups (TEG) which specialise in soldering, components, assembly, reliability and recycling as well as Industry networks (INs) which specialise in consumer, automotive and industrial, aerospace and defence, Information-technology (IT) / telecom sectors.

ELFNET intervened directly in the research agenda, established a unified knowledge base, provided a vital networking tool as well as added significant value to research projects. It was supported by the European Commission and it involved 19 European countries.
