Matlab scientific toolbox for strain- stress analysis

Cel

The project intends to develop using Matlab, software for technical computing, a Scientific Toolbox for Strain-Stress Analysis having as input data the full-field deformations of the specimen surface obtained by optical methods of experimental solid mecha nics. Will be defined calculus algorithms to fulfill the following steps: selection and read of the experimental data (full-field deformations) corresponding to different measuring systems (Moiré fringes technique, speckle pattern interferometry and corre lation method) and having different file formats; computation of full-field strains and stresses according to different theoretical algorithms; interactive and intuitive visualization of the results as 2D and 3D graphical plots; data storage and reports ge neration. The Scientific Toolbox represents a low cost solution with a high scientific level and has immediate practical applications enhancing the research capabilities of the existing equipment of the host institution. Novelty of the concept consists of combination between Matlab's facilities to compute and visualize large quantity of data and its powerful image processing on one hand and full-field displacements information obtained by optical measuring methods of engineering analysis on the other hand. The research will be developed together with Strength of Material Department of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, which has more than 40 years of experience in material testing and strain-stress analysis and has successfully completed many national and also international research grants. Benefits undertaking the project at Community level can be expressed in terms of turning into good account the previous expertise of the researcher, development of his scientific career, enhancement the sci entific and technological level of the host institution with promotion of research activities. Should be reminded the multidisciplinary character of research, coordination and synergies with #
