Feasibility study of internationalisation of dust control products using innovative cleantech technology

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - DS Products study (Feasibility study of internationalisation of dust control products using innovative cleantech technology)

Okres sprawozdawczy: 2015-07-01 do 2015-12-31

The objective of this Feasibility study was to systematically survey, by means of the market studies and customer pilots, the needs and the willingness of the potential users (equipment rental or construction companies) to deploy DS products in the dust control process and to demonstrate the advantages of DS -products to the companies involved in the dust control processes. The survey further identified and validated the aforementioned issues related to the dust control process in terms of up-to-date dust protection requirements and procedures, material efficiency, turnaround time of work processes and phases, energy loss reduction, generated waste recycling, as well as reuse of dust protection materials.
The market study was done covering countries of EU-18. This included among others such as pilot project, potential customers, competitors and evaluation of product needs.

In addition, the economic viability of the products was evaluated. Also the regulatory and technical requirements in the target countries was clarified to ensure that the products under development will meet them

Pilot customers had very good experiences with the product, and saw very large benefits from it’s usage.

Customer feedback from use of DS-walls was very positive. They were able to reduce dust protection of 5m2 from 1-2 hours to 3-5 minutes, and to keep temperature and draft of air within needed boundaries to allow molding. They also saw that possibility to quickly change place of DS-walls brings huge savings compared to traditional method.
By their opinion, product was marketready and they recommend its usage.

Product also saves much of the plastic and other type of waste to environment as it replaces many one-time-use materials.

Market studies show that DSF has potentiality of 13,5 M€ - 135 M€ within EU-18 dust protection market of at building renovation and demolition areas. From this DSF aims to have 120 M€ by year 2020.
The results show a good opportunity and possible future for Dust Shelter, and thus it plans to continue business idea. Objectives has not changed, although some more objectives have been seen, like other target markets than construction industry. But even they are seen, they are not perceived as close future, and thus are not affected by this study. By the study it is seen that best target group is construction machinery rental companies, and that a co-operation with the international Finnish one would be most suitable strategic approach. Im-pact of that would be that company gets foothold to foreign countries without need of larger investments by itself.
It is seen that to develop business further more funding is needed. Although if good results come from first sales, i.e. larger sales to some international rental companies, need for fund-ing is reduced. Further funding would be needed to develop rest of the DS-system, namely DS-Door, and few other versions of the DS-Wall.

As socio-economic impact, it is expected that after successful growth of Dust Shelter, it will allow to create new jobs in many countries, regarding its manufacturing and delivery. Also, since usage of products reduces waste and quickens the construction project in different stages, it will have also secondary impacts.
