Light-AIOL ERC-Proof of Concept seeks commercialization of the Accommodating Intraocular Lens (AIOL) developed in the ERC Advanced Grant PRESBYOPIA. Presbyopia is the age-related loss of accommodation due to stiffening of the crystalline lens of the eye and affects 100% of the population over 45. The AIOL will allow restoring dynamic focusing ability of the young eye, without the compromises of other options. Light AIOL ERC PoC has allowed evaluating the marketability of the developed AIOL platform and preparing a strategy for exploitation. A roadmap to advance the technology towards a commercial product has been designed, a first package of commercialization has been presented to industrial and financial investors and awards and new funding has been secured to move the technology closer to to its deployment in patients.
