NanoComSol has developed solutions for the processing of nanoparticles into polymer composite materials, so-called nanocomposites. We provide the technology to manufacture plastic components that can deliver light from LED screens and light sources much more efficiently and in a specified color. To realize this goal we have developed methods to protect and coat nanoparticles, such as quantum dots, that enable them to be stably encapsulated in polymers and processed as optical components using standard, low-cost methods of the plastics industry. The advantages of these novel composites are lower energy consumption, lower manufacturing costs, high-quality colored and white light from LED sources, miniaturization and lower material consumption and environmental impact compared to currently used solutions. Together with industrial partners we plan to commercialize these breakthroughs over the coming 2-3 years, with the aim of producing and selling these materials on an industrial scale to manufacturers of screen and lighting devices, as well as providing custom-built solutions for niche needs of optically active plastics.
