The Versailles-Evry Research Training (VERT) site proposes to train early-stage researchers (ESRs) in Plant Biology using a multidisciplinary approach integrating high-throughput functional genomics, multiple biological resources and state-of-the-art technologies. The training offered takes advantage of the unique concentration of facilities and scientific/training expertises available in five laboratories of INRA located at the campus of Versailles and at the Evry-Genopole, the major site for genomics in France.
High quality training will be provided in main fields of Plant Biology for which the VERT consortium has a long standing recognized expertise (structure and evolution of genomes, plant development and reproduction, plant adaptation to the environment) using novel and diversified technologies, including transcriptomics, metabolomics, high-throughput phenotyping and cell imaging. The complementary expertise of more than 100 permanent researchers and the availability of common biological resources and facilities will ensure an efficient multidisciplinary and up-to-date training of the ESRs, and promote transfer of knowledge. Attending on site seminars and lectures organized by local universities and other public research institutes will broaden the scientific culture of trainees.
The consortium, the University doctoral schools and the INRA Training Department will provide additional training with emphasis on skills, career assessment, project management and introduction to issues such as intellectual property and ethics in Science. Approximately 50 fellows from EU, associate candidate states or third countries will be trained through either short or long stay (EuroPhD) trainings. The VERT consortium wishes thus to contribute significantly to the training o f ESRs in Europe and provide them with key concepts and methods necessary for a multidisciplinary approach of plant integrative biology in the post genome area.
