European Stratospheric Balloon Observatory Design Study

Rezultaty

Ground System Conceptual Design Report

A single conceptual design report is foreseen for the common and dedicated ground systems for all flight platforms. If several ground sites remain in consideration, the descriptions may be combined into one report or several, as seen fit.

Operations and Governance Conceptual Design Report

This document will describe the considered operations and governance structures, along with the estimated ROM cost estimates of operation under each structure, the services offered, and impacts expected. It will also contain the a proposed process for site selection along with site criteria and requirements and an identified recommendation regarding the operations and governance infrastructure.

Interface Control Documents

In this document, all internal and external interfaces of infrastructure elements identified so far will be listed and specified to the extent possible. The ICD will be further developed along with more detailed interface definitions throughout the project.

Development Roadmap

This document will provide an overview of the development timeline for the infrastructure, including funding and technology needs. Technology development activities will be laid out. Separate but coordinated development timelines will be provided for the different infrastructure platforms as far as it is reasonable, in order to judge the required efforts of each platform.

Test Report

This document will contain the detailed test procedures, set-ups, and results.

ESBO Executive Summary

Brief executive summary of the envisioned infrastructure, including the scientific vision, the development roadmap, and funding needs. This document will serve as a means of presenting the ESBO concept to relevant funding and policy bodies.

Design Justification File

This document will contain a description of the chosen infrastructure design concept, along with a justification of major choices.

Requirements Baseline

This document will define the top-level user requirements that shall be fulfilled by the infrastructure. All subsequent development will be based upon it.

Flight System Conceptual Design Report

A conceptual design report will be created for each flight platform studied (currently foreseen UV, exoplanets, FIR-focused, but may change during detailed study). The reports will contain the detailed system design and preliminary conceptual subsystem design of the flight system. Due attention will be paid to the description of scalable and modular elements.

Dissemination and Exploitation Plan

Report detailing the strategy and activities foreseen to ensure optimal diffusion of the project results. This report will be an update of the Plan for the Dissemination and Exploitation of ESBO DS Results which was already provided in the project proposal / Annex 1 to the Grant Agreement.

Gondola/Test Hardware

This deliverable is part of the prototype and test hardware. It will include: the balloon gondola with its subsystems, as well as required associated test hardware. In addition to tests in WP12, the prototype platform will also be used for demonstration activities for research groups and/or the general public. If feasible, basic demonstrations will be performed at the community workshop. The final technology demonstration will be carried out via a flight test of the prototype under external funding at the end of the project or shortly thereafter. The prototype platform will be made available to the scientific community after the project.

Telescope Assembly

This deliverable is the complete telescope assembly including the telescope the optical bench and the instruments visible and UV detectors It will be used for further calibration of the UV instrument in WP9 and for integration into the prototype platform in WP11

Concept presentation to scientific audience

Before choosing a concept for further design during the Alternative Concepts Review, the ESBO DS team will present the studied concepts at a major international scientific conference (minimum one) to collect feedback and input from the scientific community. D3.1 is the conference presentation.
