Dronything S.L. was started in October 2018 and set up as a legal entity in March 2018 in Madrid, Spain, with the intent to automate Visual Inspections for Aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Organizations.
Aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) organizations are engaged by traditional airline operators to periodically inspect and fix their respective aircrafts. One of their key activities is the inspection of the body, which includes the fuselage, wings, stabilizer and control surfaces. These inspections are currently tedious, time consuming, expensive (in terms of labour and equipment) and significant change-averse due to the amount of regulations imposed by Aviation control authorities. The real issue hasn’t been a lack of technology, rather the lack of a comprehensive end-to-end technology solution that assists inspection, complete defect identification & categorization and report generation.
Inspections in Aircraft Maintenance determine the airworthiness, or readiness for air, of an aircraft. Human error is a key factor when it comes to aviation mishaps. Out of 291 aircraft incidents (anywhere from erratic landing to crashes) that happened in a two decade span from 1993 to 2012, 20% has been linked to human errors in maintenance. There is clearly a societal need for a more precise, transparent and thorough process in maintenance. As inspections are the crux of any maintenance job, Dronything’s solution should be deemed as vital to society.
