BIOLOGICAL AMMONIA REMEDIATION IN LIVESTOCK FARMING

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - NITROBIO (BIOLOGICAL AMMONIA REMEDIATION IN LIVESTOCK FARMING)

Okres sprawozdawczy: 2018-12-01 do 2019-03-31

Livestock farming is responsible for 85% emissions of ammonia (NH3) in Europe, impacting global air quality, animal wellbeing and farm productivity. Stringent emission limits have been set in the EU that demand for a 19% reduction of NH3 by 2030. However, no solution exists that address the problem fully, but current technologies are mostly addressed at mitigating the effects. NITROBIO seeks to complete the development, validation and commercialization of KOPROS, a unique chemical-free solution to remove ammonia from manure before is emitted to the atmosphere, by stimulating the natural microbiology present.
During Phase 1 we have selected several research organizations to validate each KOPROS formula among main livestock producing countries. We have reviewed the market at a global scale, as well as the relevant regulation affecting its commercialization. This has led to a well-defined commercial strategy, starting by the consolidation of KOPROS for bovine and pig in the European market (2021-2022), market growth for poultry and entry for horse and sheep/goat (2023-2024) and eventually, international expansion of all the product lines and introduction of KOPROS for fish (2025). Main stakeholders (distributors and farmer associations) have been identified in our target countries to work jointly to make sure we have updated information on the regulatory requirements for the commercialization of KOPROS. We have devised the marketing strategy, which will be mainly supported by agreements to demonstrate KOPROS in demo farms, and we have created three financial scenarios: in a conservative sales scenario, we will create €9.6 million annual turnover by 2025 with a ROI of 4.12 payback reached in 3 years and direct employment of 12 people.
KOPROS achieves more than 95% efficiency in the reduction of NH3 in livestock farms with minimal product application and without the need for specialized equipment, capital investments or infrastructure. With KOPROS, farmers will increase animal productivity (up to 40%) thanks to improved animal health (up to 62% reduction on health issues and veterinary costs), at least 50% less manure handling costs and will ensure compliance with even the strictest NH3 emission regulations. KOPROS is totally safe, chemical-free, GMO-free (free of genetically modified organisms) and is suitable for organic farming. We estimate NITROBIO will unblock a market of €32 million during the five years after first commercialization.
