City Lab Guide: ‘Co-creating SIE city labs: harnessing the potentials of SIE for cities'

Deliverable D19 sums up the experience of the six SONNET City Labs presenting more general implications for designing implementing and learning from city labs for harnessing the potentials of SIE The results are delivered in the form of a City Lab Guide on lessons learnt and examples for encouraging SIE targeted towards city administrations and SIE intermediaries Output of T48

Co-creation, Dissemination and Exploitation Strategy

Deliverable D26 outlines how the project activities and results will be communicated, specifying its target audiences, key messages, as well as channels to be used throughout the project. In particular, it outlines the concept of SONNET’s website, including its key contents. In addition to the project’s own activities and channels, the strategy will consider synergies with partners’ own dissemination activities, as well as those of related projects and organisations. Output of T7.1.

Methodological guidelines for case study analysis of SIE-initiatives

Deliverable D9 outlines the methodological approach for the conduction of case studies investigating SIE-initiatives. This includes case study selection criteria and processes, explanations about the innovation history and critical turning point method, topic guides for the interviews and ethical considerations. Output of T3.1.

Report on scientific conference participation, scientific publications and integration of SONNET results into training programmes

Deliverable D30 includes a collection of academic outputs derived from the project particulary regarding conference participation and scientific publications such as journal papers In addition the deliverable outlines how the work in the project has been included in which teaching and training programmes Output of T74

Synthesis report on comparative analysis of SIE initiatives in six countries: Encouraging the diversity, processes and contributions of SIE

Deliverable D11 includes the comparative metaanalysis on the basis of the five in depth case studies of SIEinitiatives in the six SONNET countries each The metaanalysis develops a systematic understanding of 1 the diversity of SIE 2 the processes of SIE incl enabling and impeding conditions 3 the contributions of SIE and 4 the local regional and national contexts in which SIEinitiatives evolve Output of T33

Deliverable D24 includes a comparison of European Energy Union objectives with goals and aims of SIEinitiatives Goals are categorised from a multibottom line perspective and are compared across SIE types and countries across six SONNET countries Output of 61

Updated Co-creation, Dissemination and Exploitation Strategy

Deliverable D27 builds upon the original co-creation, dissemination and exploitation strategy, with the updates reflecting lessons learned throughout the first half of the project. It will also allow for considering any unforeseen developments, e.g. with regards to policy processes, European events or new related projects. Output of T7.1.

Working paper ‘The diversity, processes and contributions of social innovation in the energy sector: revised conceptual framework and SIE typology based on SONNET's empirical evidence'

Deliverable D4 revisits the initial conceptual framework D2 and typology D1 and refines these based on lessonslearned from the inter and transdisciplinary dialogue SONNET deliverables and input from SONNET members during the final project meeting The result is a robust and empirically grounded conceptual framework that can practically inform transition processes towards more secure sustainable competitive and affordable energy futures Output of T16

SONNET Energy Reads, including infographics

Deliverable D29 includes a package of communication materials including 5 SONNET Energy Reads short and accessible papers introducing main issues addressed by the project with 5 corresponding infographics as well as 2 short videos respectively introducing the project and its key results The Energy Reads and infographics will be available as pdf files to be shared online Output of T73

Final design of citizen surveys on individuals’ perceptions and acceptance of SIE and EU energy transitions

Deliverable D20 comprises of final versions of the questionnaires for the SONNET citizen surveys in three countries (Germany, France, Poland). The questionnaires include the stated preference choice experiments and items related to citizens’ perceptions of enabling and impeding conditions of SIE and acceptance of SIE and the EU Energy transitions. The deliverable will also include further details on the research design, like the intended sample characteristics and sample size. Output of T5.2.

Report on econometric analysis of SONNET citizen survey, incl. cross-country comparison on individuals' perceptions and acceptance of SIE and EU energy transitions

Deliverable D22 presents and discusses the results of the econometric analysis of the stated preferences choice experiments on SIE in the three countries Germany France Poland This also includes a comparison of individuals perceptions and acceptance of SIE and EU energy transitions across the three countries and a discussion of intercountry differences Output of T55

Report on SONNET’s initial conceptual framework

Deliverable D2 outlines an initial version of SONNET’s conceptual framework including a number of testable working hypothesis regarding the diversity, processes, contributions, success and future potential of SIE-initiatives. This initial framework serves as reference point and starting point for SONNET’s empirical analysis. Output of T1.3.

Deliverable D17 presents the experience of Warsaw City Lab with novel collaborative governance arrangements to make energy more visible in daily practices of selected types of households and public buildings The structure of the report is based on the template provided in D12 and its content will feed into the City Lab Guide D19 Output of T46

Report on encouraging SIE through collaborative governance arrangement

Deliverable D5 presents a dynamic, process oriented collection of best practises for designing, learning and implementing collaborative governance arrangements within city administrations in the six SONNET cities. As such it reports on the mapping of governance arrangements used by city administrations to encourage SIE, which is complemented by findings of interviews with city representatives and a ‘reflection circle’ between SONNET city administrations. Output of T2.1.

Co-creating strategies for navigating multi-level policy dynamics to encourage SIE - reflections

Deliverable 8 provides guidance for SIEinitiatives and SIE intermediaries on how to better connect with and harness policy dynamics at different governance levels This is done by offering reflections on a multilevel multiactor policy dialogue facilitated with SIE intermediaries SONNET city partners and relevant policy makers from all governance levels discussing strategies for enhancing the role of SIE in EU national regional and local energy policy making Output of T24

Report on typology and characterisation of social innovation in the energy sector

Deliverable D1 captures the diversity of the SIE phenomena. It consists of two parts, firstly a mapping of about 500 different SIE initiatives across the SONNET countries and secondly, a characterisation of different types of social innovation in the energy sector. Connected to T1.2.

Report on findings of the six in-depth case study analyses of SIE-initiatives in Germany, Belgium, UK, France, Poland and Switzerland

Deliverable D10 includes a descriptive analysis and summary of the findings of the five indepth case studies of SIEinitiatives in Germany Belgium UK France Poland and Switzerland It is based on input from each academic partner 16 which will be combined into one deliverable including a short introduction and findings section For each SIEinitiative the content will include 1 an innovation timeline that sequentially lists key events relevant for the diversity processes and contributions of their initiative 2 an actor network map that shows the links between SIEinitiative and important stakeholders and 3 key critical turning points ie narratives signified by breakthroughs and setbacks changing the course of the social innovation initiative Output of T32

SIE evaluation: Characterising successful SIE to enable secure, sustainable, competitive, and affordable energy transitions

Deliverable D25 presents the evaluation scheme for SIE success which contains goals direct and indirect indicators and rating scales defining the level of completion and success The deliverable also includes the findings from applying this evaluation scheme to 30 SIEinitiatives in the six SONNET countries thereby allowing for crosscase and crosscountry comparisons Output of T63

Towards a toolkit for harnessing policy networks for encouraging SIE in Europe

Deliverable 6 presents a toolkit for policy makers and SIE initiatives providing an accessible overview of the ways in which policy networks can be harnessed to facilitate SIE It is developed in close collaboration with the SONNET cities through an interview based identification of local and surrounding policy networks and their collaborative and conflictual relations Output of T22

Report on assessment of future potentials of SIE in Europe: Business models and competitiveness, future policy interventions

Deliverable D23 assesses the future potentials of SIE in the European countries where the survey was implemented Germany France Poland This also includes estimates of market shares of the particular SIE included in the study and implications for business models and potential policy interventions which could influence the future diffusion of SIE Output of T56

Report on the SIE City Lab in Antwerp; specifying insights regarding processes (incl. enabling and impeding conditions) and contributions of SIE

Deliverable D14 presents the experience of Antwerp City Lab with drawing on approaches to citizen participation and design thinking to develop novel service models and organisation structures as a strategy to fight energy poverty in the context of clean energy transitions The structure of the report is based on the template provided in D12 and its content will feed into the City Lab Guide D19 Output of T43

Encouraging SIE through strategies for increasing countervailing powers - a practical guide

Deliverable 7 synthesises the outcomes of the empirical analysis conducted in task 23 and reports on the insights from a dedicated power lab session It focuses on the strategies for increasing the collective countervailing power of SIE to challenge energy institutions Rather than only including policy recommendations for policy makers this practical guide will discuss strategic interventions that can be taken up by all actors playing a role in SIE Output of T23

Working paper synthesising 'SONNET's insights regarding the cross-cutting issues in sustainable energy transitions'

Deliverable D3 synthesizes the insights regarding the enabling and impeding conditions as well as contributions of SIE in relation to each of the crosscutting issues socioeconomic sociocultural and sociopolitical The resulting working paper also addresses the overlaps and the interrelation of these crosscutting issues with sociotechnical aspects Output of T15

Report on transdisciplinary research protocol for six co-creating SIE City Labs

Deliverable D12 reports the research protocols for the six SONNET City Labs, based on the review of existing approaches to transdisciplinary knowledge creation and the input from city and academic partners, including the result of a partner workshop. It also includes a template for the city-specific reports on City Labs and defines the teams of city administrations and local academic partners who collaborate in setting up, implementing and evaluating each City Lab.
