Hydrogen is one of the most important gases that can potentially replace carbon-based fuels in the future. Nevertheless, it is highly explosive and characterized by an extremely low ignition energy. Thus, the development of a sensor, which can detect it stably in various environments, is crucial in the rapidly progressing hydrogen technologies. In this project a proof of concept H2 sensing device was developed that is capable of detecting in air down to 1ppm of H2 with a response time of a few seconds. We found that these performances are enabled by atomic scale engineering of the material.
