Functional specifications for the wheelset of the future

This deliverable will consist of a written document, reporting preliminary functional specifications for the wheelset, as identified and defined based on the feasibility study. These specifications, originating from a TRL2 concept, would constitute the basis for possible future developments aiming a TRL3 proof-of-concept, whose specification would be refined based on extensive testing of materials and joining methods that are out of the scope of the present study. More in details, the document will contain: • Outline drawings of the metal-composite hybrid structure (axle or wheelset), of connections between metal and composite parts; • List of requirements for the materials and the manufacturing processes; • Requirements for the composite materials and mechanical characterization methods; • Requirements for the inspection of the components. The document will also contain the results of the LCC analysis for the wheelset of the future.
