Controller requirementsThis will be a definition document for the optimized active control solutions derived from the systematic study, and will provide the information needed for the electronic controller which is to be HiL tested in Task 2.2.2.
Analysis of the State-of-Art for composite materials suitable for wheelsets and related manufacturing processesprocesses (Month 4) Results of this task will be presented in a written report that presents the materials and the manufacturing processes selected as the most suitable for the application. More specifically, the document will present: • A literature review to show that a viable composite axle does not already exist for rail vehicles and composite shafts being used in other sectors; • Extraction of the appropriate standards which can be related to the expected service conditions: fatigue/impact, FST and environmental conditions; • Collection of data from the literature in relation to those conditions; • A listing of the pros/cons of different manuf9acturing techniques based upon the selected materials; • A concept design of low to mid fidelity that incorporates the materials and manufacturing techniques.

Control system architecture for railway running gear: design and developmentThis report will outline the System Concept, the Preliminary Hazard Analysis, the System Requirement Specification, the System Architecture Specification, the System Test Specification, the HW Prototype and the Generic Application Prototype
Functional specifications for the wheelset of the futureThis deliverable will consist of a written document, reporting preliminary functional specifications for the wheelset, as identified and defined based on the feasibility study. These specifications, originating from a TRL2 concept, would constitute the basis for possible future developments aiming a TRL3 proof-of-concept, whose specification would be refined based on extensive testing of materials and joining methods that are out of the scope of the present study. More in details, the document will contain: • Outline drawings of the metal-composite hybrid structure (axle or wheelset), of connections between metal and composite parts; • List of requirements for the materials and the manufacturing processes; • Requirements for the composite materials and mechanical characterization methods; • Requirements for the inspection of the components. The document will also contain the results of the LCC analysis for the wheelset of the future.
