Periodic Reporting for period 1 - Giving Land Back (Giving Land Back: Property, Authority and Agrarian Change in Myanmar)

This study interrogated land’s place in a globalized world, producing analytical frameworks and empirical insights into digital, material, and political transformations that impact contemporary struggles for land and possibilities for just futures. Rooted in over a decade of work in Myanmar, the study provided timely insights into the impacts of political violence following the 2021 military coup while also tackling global questions of agrarian change and environmental politics.
This project produced open access peer-reviewed journal articles that explore the impacts of war and digital transformation on land politics. A special issue in the journal Antipode, co-edited by Faxon & Lund, builds on conversations begun at a workshop on Land Futures organized at the University of Copenhagen in April 2023 to explore post-agrarian questions: new inquiries that arise from the collision of existing socioecological forms, intimately tied to agriculture, and new economic and cultural realities that are reworking land relations.
Articles currently under review continue to explore the political ecology and lived experiences of revolution and digital transformation, contributing to debates in development studies, human geography, and interdisciplinary environmental science.
