Cel A simple regression analysis of childhood cancer death rates upon total gamma radiation (TGR) dose across the 10km squares of the British National Grid failed to detect any clear relationship between the two. However, a second analysis across 10km squares within aggregated 100 km regions suggested that nationwide gradients of sociodemographic factors might be masking a true TGR effect. A modified conditional logistic regression analysis incorporating sociodemographic and medical care variables revealed that TGR and childhood cancer death rates were positively related, independently of medical X-ray exposure and irrespective of the type of neoplasm.
