Cel
- To support the independent living at home of the elderly with dementia and their informal and formal carers;
- To implement integrated technological solutions combining lay-technology (self-help), low-technology (standard) and high or innovative technologies (smart home) in regular homes and to assess their impact on quality of life and health care demand.
- To analyse and to evaluate ethical issues in technology and home care.
The project assesses technology in practical contexts of home care, of local social and health care systems, and in divers research sites (existing private/public housing, new developments, residential settings, demonstration homes) in six countries. It includes a spectrum of technologies : high and innovative technologies (communication, safety, "smart home"); low technologies (presently implemented by health care systels); and lay technologies (adaptations by households themselves). An emphasis is on assessment of high-tech-solutions for home care, including computer multimedia solutions to stimulate and to support demented elderly. An interdisciplinary and multi-method-approach will be used to document and evaluate each case.
The results will be presented on workshops and compiled into a "handbook" with guidelined and evaluation criteria for the design of home environments and services for demented elderly.
