CERAMIC SUPERCONDUCTING FILAMENTS AND RIBBON PRODUCED BY SUSPENSION SPINNING AND TAPE CAST

Cel

The objective is to produce a shaped superconducting material with a thickness between 0.05 and 0.5 mm and a critical current density of 10**6 to 10**7 A/m**2 at liquid nitrogen temperature by a low cost shaping technology which can be used for mass production.
In this project, suspensions were made which allow the semi-continuous production of wires of 1 mm diameter and 0.05 - 0.5 mm thick tapes.

Also, by careful control of the heating and sintering procedure, a value of at least E6/m{2} can be obtained for the critical current density at 77K.

Small coils can be made for sensor purposes. Further research is needed to solve problems encountered with continuous sintering and to obtain values for the critical current density at 77K above 10{7}A/m{2}.
Suspension spinning and tape casting provide the possibility to produce free self-supporting filaments or ribbons which can be subjected to further upgrading treatments to increase the critical current density of the ceramic superconducting material without contamination from other composite materials. The filaments and ribbons produced are not a final product but part of a complex composite conductor of ceramic superconducting material and metallic materials.
