Materials having novel structure factors for catalysis of hydrocarbon transformations and development of selective processes

Cel

The object of this BRITE EURAM programme was the investigation of new faujasite structure type materials EMO and EMT with high Si/Al ratio and their comparison with a classical Y zeolite in FCC and hydrocracking applications. The synthesis has been improved and developed on the kilogram scale. Particular effort was placed on reduction of the cost of syntheses by reducing the amount of crown ethers and by adopting new templates. Physico-chemical properties have been modified by changing the crystallisation conditions or by adapting dealumination post-treatments. Correlations have been found between these properties and spectroscopic results. The activation of the zeolites has been optimised in order to prepare EMO- and EMT-based FCC and hydrocracking catalysts. For FCC, standard Micro Activity Test (MAT) results show that catalytic cracking is not considerably improved by using EMO or EMT zeolites. For hydrocracking, EMO is close to conventional faujasite but EMT either on model molecule or on real feedstock has a better selectivity. This incentive is nevertheless not big enough to justify commercialization, especially as referred to synthesis cost of EMT which still remains very high.
