The FATYNAMICS project aimed at improvement of the design process by developing and implementing new methods for testing and analysis. Improving accuracy of both numerical and experimental simulations was an important aspect, but also much emphasis was put on reduction of time, costs and effort required for the fatigue assessment in the modern truck development process. Within the FATYNAMICS project, a consortium of European companies has developed new test and simulation methods to increase the efficiency of the development process of trucks. The results of the FATYNAMICS project ample meet the objectives set at the beginning of the project. The skills and facilities of the consortium proved to be very appropriate for this project. The individual partners within the consortium showed to have very complementary expertise with respect to activities done within the project. Also there was a big enthusiasm and openness in the co-operation between the partners. This resulted in a very high quality and practical usefulness of the methods developed. Very much of the new methods developed, like the dynamic modelling methods, the fatigue life prediction methods, accelerated fatigue testing, and the improved test rig endurance testing, have resulted in industrial software and are already introduced in the normal development and testing process of the industrial end users. Truck manufacturers and their suppliers have a good starting point to integrate these methods on a very large scale in their development process. In this way, not only the efficiency of their development process will be improved substantially, but also, due to an improved concurrent engineering approach, the total time frame for developing new trucks will be reduced.
