Wyniki nadające się do wykorzystania
Multicomponent polymeric films are widely used for food packaging. However, they have several drawbacks including complex and expensive processing, insufficient adhesion between layers, high storage costs due to high weight and volume and difficulties with recycling. The project concerned designing thermoplastic innovative formulations of multicomponent layers and monofilms having improved mechanical strength, lower production costs and improved recycling prospects.
On a laboratory scale new and innovative polymer blends were developed and tested. The results are very positive, and are conducive towards industrial scale-up. The multilayer films produced are recyclable, hence there is a great potential for savings both in terms of energy and material. The area of packaging manufacture is very competitive, and this competition has to be answered in terms of innovation and diversification of products. Further development of the results generated in this project will provide the consortium members with a true competitive edge.
