EFFECT will set-up an environmental information system to investigate and forecast pollution levels of air and water in urban areas.
An enhanced AIRVIRO System identifying hotspot pollution and the effect of different traffic management options will be made commercially available world-wide. The system will enable the selection and deployment of Traffic Demand Management Strategies on the basis of near real-time traffic and air pollution data, with an update of the situation every 30 minutes. The system is already operational in Leicester. Transferability was demonstrated on 3 sites: Maidstone (UK), Volos (GR) and Gothenburg (D). All the City Councils of larger cities in Europe (more than 250.000 inhabitants - Air Quality Frame Directive 96/62) are targeted. It has a potential world-wide clientele.
