Associated with the effectiveness and risk of producing hydrocarbons, is the lack of appropriate tools for evaluating risk and uncertainty in reservoir parameters. However, the industry is increasingly recognizing themed for such tools, and effort is invested into the estimation of the uncertainties associated with the data theatre collected from hydrocarbon reservoirs. The project concerns itself with developing new technology that enables new workflows for reservoir asset teams. Existing applications and data types will be linked together through fast updates of the reservoir model, as well as the propagation of uncertainties through the system. The proposed developments will be part of new technology developed for the future oil and energy industry. The work to be undertaken by the fellows aims at incorporating the new data types into the work flow of the reservoir asset teams, by incorporating the data types into the tools that are used in their day to day work. The project will be organised in such a way that the Post Graduate fellows will be given concrete, theoretical problems in order to enable fundamental, theoretical research to be undertaken. This research will also lead towards the award of a Ph.D. degree. However, the work undertaken by the Post Graduate fellows will feed into the bigger picture through the work of the Post Docs and SATC staff. The Post Docs will work on a variety of different technologies in order obtain a general level of training in an industrial research environment, including using the results of the Ph.D. fellows for their work. Abingdon Technology Centre (near Oxford-UK) is part of the Schlumberger group, an international company offering oilfield services throughout all phases of oil and gas exploration and production. The Centre at Abingdon carries out fundamental and applied research directed towards new software products and services for improving the efficiency of hydrocarbon recovery operation cost effectively, safely and without harming the environment. The candidates will have an excellent background related to computational physics in general and an interesting fluid dynamics would be an advantage. Willingness to develop ideas into software would be required. They must have excellent communication skills and be good team players. Schlumberger is committed to employee diversity.
