Multi analyse immunoassays for detection of pesticides in water

Cel

The global use, the toxicity of pesticides and its residual presence in the environment are of great concern due to the potential effects on organisms, ecosystems, the quality of drinking and surface water. Current state-of-the-art techniques to detect pesticides in water are expensive or have limited applications. Multi Analyte Immunoassays (MAI) are currently used for detection in contaminated compounds but not for pesticides. The main objective of the MAIPesticides Project is to research a MAI System that can detect several pesticides specifically and simultaneously in the same water sample. The industrial objectives are that the new MAI System shoul 1) be easy-to-use; 2) cost 20% of the price of conventional systems; 3) have a high sensitivity, detecting less than 0.1 ug/L (EC Norm) and 4) have an assay-duration 2-5 times faster than conventional systems. These figures are based on data of existing immunoassays for contaminated compounds. The MAIPesticides project will consist of 6 research tasks, cost 1.0 MECU and take 24 months. Besides drinking and surface water applications the MAI System will be beneficial in the medical and food sectors.
