Cel
To monitor the environmental disturbance associated with the production and consumption of goods and services.
A case-study approach is employed, set at the various industry, product and regional levels using a methodology based upon a set of mainly physical and energy indicators, such as the land used, the material and the energy consumed by the activity/ies.
The research comprises the following:
i) Industrial processes and transportation - an input-output balance is made for approx. 50 industrial processes, including transport by rail, road, sea and air;
ii) Product/service oriented case-studies - a cradle to grave input-output-balance is made for approx. 50 selected products and services including the following, a food-product, cement and steel;
iii) Regional case-studies - an input-output-balance is provided for the economic activities in three regions, one in Germany and two in Austria.
A comparison of the results from the various case studies leads to the development of a common set of environmental disturbance indicators and an associated methodology to be used in different types of case-study.
