Cel The project is focused on improving the methodologies and tools of planning and management of fresh water resources use considering a multi-layered aquifer system within a sub-basin area of the Bystrzyca river catchment's (SW Poland). The final system parameterisation as well as satellite/GIS-derived recharge will be integrated in the numerical three-dimensional MODFLOW model environment and calibrated against spatially distributed head data in the steady state model calibration. Such model represents a powerful resources evaluation tool and becomes a basis for management and sustainable use of water at chosen pilot sub-basin area. Satellite image interpretations will be used to study surface conditions of importance to infiltration, recharge and runoff. The main objectives of the study are as follows:- to evaluate the groundwater potential and to improve knowledge on water resources in the pilot sub-basin area,- to analyse hydrostratygraphy and the groundwater flow system,- to integrate hydrogeological data with RS/GIS information in a 3-D flow model,- to establish the water balance of the multi-layered aquifer system,- to obtain an integrated system to control water intake exploitation in urbanised area.
