Cel
The main task of the project is the experimental investigation of possibilities for X-ray lasing in the ultrashort time range. The key tool for this project is the MPQ-femtosecond-terawatt-laser (one out of only a few comparable laser systems in the world) which gives the opportunity of creating high density laser plasmas in extremely short times. Therefore a totally new physical plasma regime is accessible which may allow the creation of trasient X-ray lasing as well as the adaptation of mechanisms successfully used for longer time scales. All the efforts in the field are aimed at creating a 'table-top X-ray laser' in the so-called 'water windows' wavelength range (23A to 44A). and these pIanned investigations are meant to be a wide step in this direction.
The second part of the project is the experimental demonstration of possible applications of X-ray lasers, eg. for X-ray holography, nonlinear optics and plasma diagnostics.
