Cel The project aims at developing a system for realistic visualization for lighting design and simulation. The system will be based on existing radiosity and ray tracing technology and will be functionally compatible with the program Radiance. The system will run on a general- purpose parallel or distributed processing system. The project will develop and implement algorithms for parallel processing of radiosity and ray tracing computations. This will include task-scheduling and data management techniques for distributed memory systems, and the implementation of importance driven sampling and grouping techniques. The performance of the system will be demonstrated by carrying out two case studies: one for interior lighting (an mining and tunneling application), and one for outdoor lighting (city lighting).
