Cel
Intermodal transport of (small consignment) freight on pallets is difficult. It is mostly transported on lorries with a major negative safety environmental- and economic impact. In land waterway transport of this kind of freight would be a major break-through, especially when also smaller canals, low equipped, quays and harbours and also urban areas could be reached (via "Dortmunder-sized" vessels: width: 8mt). Problem is that for smaller inland waterway vessels the storage of pallet freight on the vessel itself is inefficient as well as the organisation of (un-) loading. The objective of this project is to solve these problems by the development of a novel tool for intermodal transport of pallet freight: an automatic, optimal and intelligent warehouse- and (un-) loading system for small inland vessels (acronym: IWV pallet system).
