Organized polymer nanostructures for application in medical biology and technology

Cel

The Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry in Prague, Czech Republic, one of the largest polymer research institutions in central Europe, is looking for doctoral fellows interested in undertaking part of their studies (3 to 12 months) at the Marie Curie Training Site "Ordered Polymer Nanostructures for Medical Biology and Technology" established at the Institute. The doctoral training is aimed at giving a theoretical background as well as a practical experience with designing, producing, controlling, characterizing and investigating ordered supramolecular materials that can be used in biological environment or as materials with technological significance, such as polymer systems designed as carriers of biologically active molecules, supramolecular polymer structures usable as biomaterials, polymer blends and compatibilizing agents, nanostructured block copolymer systems in bulk and in solutions. Experimental work may include polymer synthesis, polymer characterization (HPLC, electrophoresis, time resolved fluorescence, static and dynamic light scattering, X-ray scattering, molecular spectroscopy (NMR and IR), optical, electron and atomic force microscopy using stat-of-the art instruments acquired in the past few years. The Training Site groups 14 researchers with internationally acknowledged expertise. A set of 20 courses in advanced polymer science is offered to the participants; only selected courses may be attended. The candidates must be enrolled in a PhD doctoral program in a member state of the EU. A good background in polymer science is required, either in polymer chemistry or physical chemistry or physics of polymers. A reasonable command of English at a scientific level is expected but courses of scientific English are available.
