Rezultaty
The project has successfully provided novel information of relevance to the diagnosis of bovine tuberculosis. New technologies were applied to identify, select and produce novel mycobacterial antigens.
There were three main outcomes:
- Development of models of infection;
- Screening of antigens;
- Application of antigens to novel diagnostic strategies.
Application of this approach confirmed the dominance of cell-mediated immune responses in bovine tuberculosis and identified appropriate recombinant antigens to be used in diagnostic methods. Results suggested that cattle with progressed disease have higher levels of IFN-g and antibody response. This information can be applied in certain circumstances and under particular disease control programmes to target the most appropriate animals for removal.
