GEOMED aims to integrate services for creating, disseminating and using geographical information in urban planning, public administration, and environmental protection applications.
GEOMED, an ongoing Main Phase Pilot project is essentially seeking ways to integrate services for creating, disseminating and using geographical information in specific market sectors such as urban planning, public administration and environmental protection. The project's main objective is not to develop yet more products for a market already well-served by generic and custom-made solutions, but to facilitate the exchange of information and services between different hardware platforms and software packages. GEOMED will make geographical information more accessible and affordable, and help to open and democratise public policy and planning procedures. Since there is a large market demand for sharing existing geographic information over Telematic networks, advanced telematic technologies and services developed in GEOMED will provide European industries with a competitive advantage to compete in this field.
