Investigation of fusion-fission dynamics and fission barrier structure of new superheavy elements near the island of stability

Cel

Fusion-fission dynamics in the reactions leading to formation of super-heavy elements close to the island of stability will be studied in experiments on the 48Ca, 56Fe + 244Pu and 48Ca, 56Fe + 248Cm collisions at near-barrier energies. The performed experiment will be as complete as possible. The mass-energy correlations of the fission fragments will be measured in coincidence with neutron and g-ray multiplicity. Fission barrier structure of super-heavy elements will be derived and theoretical calculations will be provided to determine the basic level density parameters of so exotic nuclear object like super-heavy nucleus. Fusion-fission dynamics of super-heavy nuclear system regulated by strong channel coupling with highly collective rotational and vibration states and with nucleon transfer in the entrance channel and by quasi-fission processes in the exit channel will be studied for the first time. Measuring the sub-barrier probabilities for heavy ion capture and for compound nucleus formation will give a unique possibility to predict the cross sections for the synthesis of new super-heavy elements from the island of stability.

The experiments will take place namely at the U-400 cyclotron of the FLNR, JINR, Dubna, Russia, at the IPPE, Obninsk, Russia and at the VIVITRON, Strasbourg, France using the neutron modular detector DEMON designed and build by the DEMON Collaboration (LPC, Caen; IReS, Strasbourg, France and ULB, Brussels, Belgium).
