Superconductivity in strongly correlated systems

Exploitable results

The theoretically most demanding problem was the strong electron correlation which is present in the copper-oxide plane of these materials. Our rather broad program was divided into 4 sub-problems: spectrum of the spin polaron, Luttinger liquids, excitonic mechanism of superconductivity unconventional pairing The results are reflected in 21 publications (in addition to 25 publications for the main period of the project). Details were clarified of the spin polaron dispersion, its life time and doping dependence. The results were in good agreement with photoemission experiments. It was shown that the Luttinger liquid may appear in a strong magnetic field restricting the motion to an effectively one-dimensional situation and also investigated was the region of stability of such a Luttinger liquid. The excitonic mechanism of superconductivity occurring in the electron-exciton liquids was proposed. To detect such a state in HTSC the photon echo was investigated. A study of the anomalous behaviour of the magnetic susceptibility in HTSC, the paramagnetic Meissner or Wohlleben effect was carried out. That effect is important to distinguish experimentally different pairing symmetries.
