Novel Metal-Mediated Synthetic Procedures

Cel

The objectives in the area of " Organotitanium Chemistry" will be to develop new procedures for the preparation of branched hydrocarbon chains by use of titanium induced cyclopropanation of esters with Grignard reagents, followed by selective ring-opening and in a related study to examine the preparation and metal-induced ring-opening of dialkylcyclopropane carboxamides. In addition, the scope of the highly selective hydrodehalogenation of polyhalo-compounds by reaction with titanium isopropoxide and a Grignard will be examined.
In a second area of "Organolithium Chemistry" the targets will be a systematic examination of the scope of the insertion of 1-lithio-1-halocarbenoids into C-H and heteroatom-H bonds including a study of absolute stereochemistries using single enantiomers of organolithium, and a corresponding study of the 1,3-dehalogenation of 1-halo-2-halomethylcyclopropanes by an alkyllithium leading to highly strained hydrocarbons.
In the third area of "Organotransition metal Chemistry" the aim will be to examine the regio-and stereochemistry of carbenes, derived by transition metal complex catalysed decomposition of diazo-compounds to the C-C bonds of strained polycyclic alkanes and the metal induced ring-opening of diaziridines, derived from the addition of diazo-compounds to strained alkenes. The project is expected to deliver:
Novel applications of organotitanium chemistry.
Novel applications of organolithium chemistry.
Novel applications of organo-transition metal chemistry.
