Microtechnologies Industrial Applications, Training and Dissemination Neetwork in Ibero-America

Cel

The main goal of IBERNET is to disseminate microtechnologies as a powerful innovation tool and to promote its use as a product innovation resource focusing on the most relevant Latin American industry sectors. This goal will be achieved by the consolidation of the existing IBERCHIP network structure, providing active support to existing and well-known design groups. From these groups, a wide dissemination of product innovation possibilities through the use of microtechnologies mainly directed to the industrial environment should be done. Information distribution, support, sharing and trading of EDA tools and some sort of microsystems distributed fabrication facilities should be also set-up. The know-how and the expertise from the network will also used to give technical support to the emerging initiatives and a distributed technology-consulting network will also be set-up. High level training courses will be also organized in order to enhance the competence level of existing groups in their different areas of interest.

Objectives:
As a global objective, IberNet will undertake the task of disseminating microtechnologies as a powerful innovation tool, promoting its use as a product innovation resource to focus on the most prominent fields of Latin American industry. According to this, the IBERNET main objectives are the following:
(1) To disseminate the IBERCHIP and IBERNET project lines, the expertise, and the results obtained in the previous IBERCHIP editions
(2) To disseminate product innovation possibilities through the use of such microtechnologies as microelectronics and microsystems, mainly focusing the industrial environment
(3) To set up and consolidate a solid network of technological centers in Latin-America, and to improve its capabilities in the microsystems field in order to obtain an operative network with autonomous capabilities to help industries in solving their innovation problems through the use of available technologies
(4) To set up a high-level courses program as a way to train research center experts in leading edge microtechnologies
(5) To set up a continuous training program, in order to train industry engineers on presently available microtechnologies

Work description:
IBERNET will act as the set-up phase for the overall IBERCHIP work-frame. Hence, the mainlines to be developed in IBERNET are: the establishment and consolidation of a solid knowledge and training network, the development of continuous and specific training activities, and the dissemination of the project previous editions results.

Milestones:
Hence, the work in IBERNET will be divided in three different sets:
1. Consolidation and extension of the existing IBERCHIP network, focussing in the creation of active support centres that shall attain enough self-independence in order to e able to train and assist their local industries and research centres.
2. Dissemination of the project mainlines, marketing and disclosure of the previous IBERCHIP results and successes, in order to attain an awareness of the project and its late and future outcomes in the academic and public domains.
3. Establishment of various training policies. These policies will convey the set-up of different training mechanisms. - A Support Centre training oriented to help these centres in their race towards full independence for training and consulting in some microtechnologies related fields. - An industrial staff-training task oriented at creating awareness and the basis for the understanding and use of such awareness in the management and technical industry staffs. A continuous training scheme, devoted to assist trained technicians and scientists in further research, and based on multimedia innovative techniques and supports. Consolidation, extension and social acknowledgment of the present IBERCHIP network for dissemination and integration of microtechnologies in the Latin American industrial and scientific sectors and dissemination of the previous IBERCHIP results and of the mainlines of the present IBERNET proposal and its wider IBERCHIP work-frame. Consolidation of a solid training network, with different levels of training adapted to the different entities and the staff within them. - Consolidation of solid Support Centre distributed in the Latin American countries that will further and more directly assist the basic microtechnology requirements of the Latin American industries, and that will enhance the work.
