Transparent simulation programme for electric and hybrid vehicles

Cel

A computer simulation programme for electric and hybrid vehicles will be developed. The programme will aim the designer in the search for best vehicle structures and operating strategies.
User-made models and component descriptions can be used as well as those that come along with the programme.

Simulation modules were developed for standard electric and hybrid vehicles equipped with dc machines and controllers. The user controls the simulator through a picture of the simulated system. Changes of constants that determine the components' behaviour can be made without reference to the source code. The same applies to characteristic curves used within a component. A component of a given structure, such as the battery, can be replaced by a similar component - another battery - using a menu-driven approach.
Within the Joule contract JOUE-CT92-0087 the software basis of the Drive Train Simulation Programme DTS was developed and tested with a model for electric vehicles. Collection of data has been started including drive cycles, models for batteries and other drive train components.
The programme will be an tool for the development of simulation programmes. It is designed to simulate systems with a small number of complex components. Thus it is best for the drive train of electric and hybrid vehicles. Information on simulated structures and components is taken from text based files and thus readable and extendable.
The user controls the simulator through a picture of the simulated system. Changes of constants that determine the components' behaviour can be made without dealing with the source code. The same applies to characteristic curves used within a component. A component of a given structure (for instance the battery) can be replaced by a similar component (another battery) completely menu driven.

The creation of new models and the collection of data will be performed in collaboration with the Free University of Brussels (VUB), Professor MAGGETTO. The programme will be available in two versions, one within the LABVlEW-environment (VUB) and once within the Microsoft WlNDOWS-environment (University of Kaiserslautern).

The simulation results will be compared with bench tests and measurements in electric vehicles.
