Wyniki nadające się do wykorzystania
The project aimed to collate and prepare the range of documents necessary for the production of the second edition of the "Atlas of Geothermal Resources", originally published in 1988. The new, considerably enlarged and updated atlas consists of geothermal data from EU Member States, EFTA countries and countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
Geothermal resources are the element of underground stored heat that can be extracted economically in the near future. In general, the stored thermal energy is extracted from groundwater aquifers by a system of boreholes. There are many ways to represent and estimate geothermal resources, and almost every country has its own procedures for calculating and displaying these resources. In this project, however, the same approach is being used by all partners in order to display geothermal resources on a comparable basis for most European countries, including for the first time Eastern and Central Europe. Maps of surface temperature at different depths and of heat flow for Europe will also be included. The purpose of the atlas is to serve as a basis for decision-makers at all governmental levels for informed action on geothermal energy issues.
