Bio-electricity: concepts, feasibility and implementation studies on large scale biomass utilization

Cel

The main aim of the project is to develop concepts, schemes and methodologies for large scale integration of electricity production from biomass in various regions of Europe. A network of experienced partners, research institutions and regional and local authorities - with first-hand know how on the frame conditions for the implementation - has been formed to carry out this study.
The basic philosophy of the project concept is to combine the know how on the best available biomass technology, the identification of potential and promissing technological innovative options, the market development and the frame conditions on regional and local level.
Through three steps.the following questions will be investigated: the potentials of biomass in the regional or local area; state of the art of research and development of technoloqies; usefull strategies and effects of existing policies, development of network, pilot operations and stimulation of industries and methods to increase awareness to potentials of renewable energy technology.
Concrete implementation plans on short, medium and long term will be the key outcome of the project. The short term strategy can serve as the basis for the implementation actions.
Another impo-tent result is the interim report on the results of a qualitative nature for the Commission by the end of 1995.
The findings and project cooperation will serve as a platform for future development processes, in which local and regional authorities are playing a key role. To increase the dissemination effect a Symposium will be organized.
Finally it must be emphasized that an important side-effect is the strengthening of the CERE network, Communities in Europe for Renewable Energies.
