Production of sulphur from gypsum as an industrial by-product

Cel

To treat in a reactor about 10 kg of gypsum per cubic meter per day in order to ensure industrial scale exploitation and the economical viability of the global process.

To determine, at laboratory scale (reactor of about 30 litres), the optimal procedure at the step of transformation of sulphates into solid sulphur from phosphogypsum. The couple reactor/hydrogen sulphide (H2S) extraction column will be particularly studied:

the anaerobic reactor could operate either in free cells or in fixed cells;
the extraction column for isolating H2S from the reactive medium will be attached to an external recirculation device. The extraction will be made by air stripping.

Parameters to be measured or calculated are: flows, loads in SO4 2 and COD, hydraulic detention time, biomass concentration, stains or mixtures of strains and loads, gas production, H2S content of the gas and the liquid after stripping, stripping air flows, H2S extraction yield.
