THE EVALUATION AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF "TFL" TECHNIQUES FOR THE SERVICING OF SUBSEA OIL WELLS

Cel

The objectives were to investigate the reliability in general of tfl techniques and equipment, including the degree of control available over long flowlines towards evaluating the use of this technique in the completion of subsea wells in the north sea.
The tests indicated that tfl techniques could be applied with a considerable degree of success provided sufficient attention is paid to advance preparations and training of personnel.
The project included three stages:

1. An assessment of the performance of a 3" tfl system in a short surface loop at montrose, scotland.

2. The development of a method of producing "tfl quality" welds in offshore flowlines which could readily be applied to the new reelbarge laying methods.

3. The construction of a typical 4" nominal subsea satellite completion at bp's oilfield at eakring, nottinghamshire, comprising a 2,000m surface loop and

a 440 m well, and an investigation of wear, control effects and tool reliability when pumped over long distances for a considerable period.
