To demonstrate the use of the advanced 33 m modified commercial WT, equipped with innovative variable slip generator and installed at points of high power demand. To tests benefits diurnal and seasonal variations in wind energy against grid supplied tariff structures.
Innovatory aspects: The variable slip generator on the demonstration wind turbine.
Four upwind two-bladed wind turbines supplied by the Wind Energy Group Ltd are going to be installed at Haw Pike in the Pennine Hills of Yorkshire. The first machine is likely to incorporate a variable slip 400 kW generator, which is being assessed in collaboration with the Department of Energy for improved torque control and power quality. The other three machines will probably be single speed models with 300 kW generators.
Only the 100 kW machine is financially supported by the Commission. The power generated, approximately 1.3 MW maximum, will be consumed on site by the reservoir pumping station. The total annual yield is estimated at 3,000 MWh.
